Why capstans and pulleys wear out<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The capstan is the motorized drum that pulls the wire along the line; the return pulley redirects the wire without actively pulling it. In both cases the wire applies localized pressure and a sliding motion that concentrates wear on specific points.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The pulling band is the critical zone: here the wire slides under tension and, cycle after cycle, removes material. Secondary phenomena add to this, such as limestone (scale) deposits inside the drum, which hinder cooling and accelerate degradation. The outcome is uneven wear that, left unchecked, leads to sudden failures, machine downtime and a decline in the surface quality of the drawn wire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
